2YO colt Skyclad became the 35th winner by Snitzel for trainer Gerald Ryan when he made all over 1100 metres at Rosehill on Saturday to run out the winner by a length from Lycia and Backstab.
Snitzel heads the Australian 2YO Sires’ list by winners with 15 successful juveniles this season, among them Group winners Fireworks and Big Tree, and Listed winner Odyssey Moon.
Skyclad was returning from a spell after his debut third behind Voilier at Rosehill in December.
Ryan is bullish about the Skyclad’s prospects.
“He spelled very well and we had ideas of getting him ready to go to Brisbane, but we probably ran out a little bit of time, so he will only have one more run for education and we will put him away for the Spring.
“I trained his grandmother when I was in Melbourne. He is a good-natured horse and he just does everything right and works well when you want him to. He has been serving it up to some of the open class horses.”
Raced by his breeders Kim & Steve Dyer, Skyclad is the third foal and third winner out of the Sydney winner Loulou (by Strategic), whose dam was the Melbourne winner Make Mine Paris that Ryan remembers.
The list of Snitzel’s winners from the Ryan stable includes Group 1 winner Snitzerland and Group winners Hot Snitzel, Time For War, Flying Snitzel and Dances On Stars. Hot Snitzel, transferred to Peter & Paul Snowden only last month, posted his first Group 1 victory in Brisbane a few hours after Skyclad’s win.
