Wanaruah’s well-deserved first black type success, in Saturday’s $200,000 ATC Bob Charley AO S. 1100m LR, earns him a milestone spot as the 175th individual stakeswinner by Champion Sire Snitzel.
The 4YO stallion, raced by his breeders Rae-Louise & Padraig Kelly of Fernrigg Farm in partnership with Oneplusnine Racing & Matha Bloodstock, takes Snitzel’s season tally of individual stakeswinners to 20 for the fourth time, after 2016/17 (final total: 29 SW), 2017/18 (28) & 2024/25 (21).

The win was also notable for Scone trainers Brett & Georgie Cavanough, who celebrated the 65th win of their first season in partnership, achieved at an impressive 19% strike rate.
Wanaruah is the best of three winners so far left by South African Group 2 winner Mella Maria (by Star Witness). Offered for sale as an Inglis Easter yearling, he was passed in and raced initially from the Waterhouse & Bott stable, winning both his 2YO starts in Sydney and placing twice in 3YO Group company behind Autumn Glow & Angel Capital.
Brett Cavanough said after Saturday’s success, “He could be a really good horse. There’s some pretty exciting Spring races coming up, so we won’t overtax him, we’ll just get him home, and regroup and work out where we go.”
With 7 weekends left of the Australian 2025/26 racing season, Snitzel leads the General Sires’ Premiership with just over $25 million prizemoney.
The new head of Arrowfield’s roster, The Autumn Sun consolidated his hold on the No. 3 spot after his 4YO daughter Surfin’ Bird landed Saturday’s $500,000 Magic Millions National Classic at Eagle Farm for First Light Racing, Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott.
