Snitzel notches up Stakeswinner No. 178

Six stakeswinners, six stakes victories by mid-October – not easy for any stallion to do in Australia’s super-competitive racing & breeding industry.
Except perhaps for Snitzel. Because he’s done it this Spring, last Spring and the Spring before that as well as 2022, 2021 (actually, 8 stakes wins, three of them at Group 1 level) & 2018. Five in 2020 & 2019, and an astonishing 19 in 2017, the beginning of Snitzel’s second, record-setting Premiership season.
And it’s a fair bet that Lady Shenandoah, Lazzura, The Next Episode, Wonka, Musandam and now King Snitz have opened yet another high-achieving season for the 5-time Champion Sire of Australia.
King Snitz, a home-bred for Tony Ottobre’s Cape Schanck Stud, won a three-way battle with Maurice’s son Vallice and Cignetti in the $240,000 MRC Caulfield Classic 2000m G3, taking Snitzel’s career tally of stakes wins to 349.
That’s an average of one black type victory every 18 days. For the past 17 years.

King Snitz is the first foal of Princess Jenni whose four Group wins included the Australasian Oaks G1, and he is the third stakeswinner from 14 runners bred on the Snitzel/High Chaparral cross, after multiple Group winner Best Of Bordeaux and Group 3 winner Williamsburg – both of them also Group 1-placed.
Trainer Shane Jackson indicated after the race that if King Snitz pulls up well, he will likely head towards the $3 million Victoria Derby G1 on 31 October, becoming only the fifth son of Snitzel to line up in the great Flemington Classic.
Marhoona (2nd, $2 million Sydney S. G2), Liguria (2nd, Soliloquy S. G2 at Ellerslie, New Zealand) and Decorum (a close 4th in the $1 million Silver Eagle LR – Arrowfield graduate Skyhook was 2nd) rounded out Snitzel’s latest big Saturday.
There is plenty more to come…
