Snitzel rules in Arrowfield 3YO Sprint

Racing three wide without cover from gate 10 wasn’t enough to stop Snitzel’s son Wild Ruler from winning the $1 million ATC Arrowfeld 3YO Sprint 1200m G2 on the second day of The Championships at Royal Randwick.

The grand-looking colt found enough under pressure to hit the line just ahead of the fast-finishing Isotope with Prague (by Redoute’s Choice) third.

Wild Ruler is the third consecutive Arrowfield-sired winner of the race, after Classique Legend (by Not A Single Doubt) & Splintex (by Snitzel), in the five years that Arrowfield has sponsored it.

Co-trainer Paul Snowden said, “It probably took a Group One horse to win – it was an extraordinary effort, three deep no cover. It’s hard to do in any race, let alone a most important one such as this.”

Wild Ruler’s record now reads 5 wins, including the Roman Consul S. G2, Fireball S. LR, Heritage S. LR, Inglis Nursery RL, and $1.5 million prizemoney from ten starts. Happily, it is likely he will race on in search of Group 1 success.

The third foal of US dual Graded Stakes winner Gypsy Robin (by Awesome Again’s son Daaher), Wild Ruler made $525,000 for his breeder Kia Ora Stud when purchased by the China Horse Club, Newgate Bloodstock & WinStar from the 2019 Inglis Easter Sale. His large group of owners also includes Aston Bloodstock, G1G Racing & Breeding, Glenlogan Park, Go Bloodstock, Horse Ventures & Nick Vass. Gypsy Robin is due to foal to Snitzel again this year.

Wild Ruler is Snitzel’s leading earner among 10 stakeswinners this season, a group that includes a pair of classy juveniles, the New Zealand-based Sword Of State (ARC Diamond S. G1) & Sydney filly Four Moves Ahead (ATC Sweet Embrace S. G2).
