Rich win for Snitzel’s Lily at Gosford

It’s been a hot spring for 2nd season sire Snitzel who posted his eighth winner this month when smart 3YO filly Tigress Lily (ex Empress Lily by Zabeel) scored a valuable win over 1600 metres at Gosford this afternoon.

She headed a trifecta for Arrowfield sires, beating home Gallant Spur (by Flying Spur ) and last start winner Snitz Kiss (also by Snitzel) to collect around $90,000 in prizemoney, BOBS & Inglis bonuses. It was the filly’s second win in three starts since her debut, also at Gosford, a month ago.

Tigress Lily was the top-piced yearling by Snitzel in 2009, selling for $400,000 to Carol Richards from the Arrowfield draft at the Inglis Easter Australian Yearling Sale. From a Group 1-placed daughter of the outstanding 1998 New Zealand Horse of the Year Tycoon Lil, Tigress Lily possesses both strength and scope, and trainer John O’Shea’s goal of winning next May’s Inglis Guineas with her appears eminently achievable.

She is one of nine Australian winners this season by Snitzel, who has also been represented by the winner Ace Allotroped in Singapore, and nine winners from his first crop 2YOs in Japan. Snitzel’s Australian performers include G2 winner Chance Bye, last weekend’s Melbourne stakeswinner Zelsnitz and stakes-placed Yorkshire Lad.

Arrowfield will offer a colt by Redoute’s Choice from Empress Lily at the 2011 Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
