Ganbare does his best for Maurice
The Maurice/Redoute’s Choice cross struck yet again when Ganbare lived up to the meaning of his Japanese name with an unflinching performance to win the $250,000 Dulcify S. 1600m LR in 1:34.07 at Randwick on Saturday.
Ganbare translates into English as “do your best” and that’s precisely what the Arrowfield Inglis Classic graduate did, holding off Pushy and the favourite Tom Kitten to become Maurice’s 18th worldwide stakeswinner and the third from the first 26 runners out of his 2020 Australian crop.
Ganbare is also Maurice’s 5th stakeswinner out of a Redoute’s Choice mare, after triple Group 1 winner Hitotsu, Group 2 winner Bank Maur and 2YO Listed winners Azula & Namesake. All except Azula are Arrowfield graduates.

Jockey Tim Clark said, “He got into a really good position, the pace was on but I find the more pressure there is, the more Gai and Adrian’s horses thrive…I wasn’t really concerned because I knew he’d be really strong…he fought it out really well.”
Co-trainer Adrian Bott added, “He’s very uncomplicated, and he’s a horse that keeps on improving with racing.”
Ganbare, a debut 2YO winner last season, now has a 3-from-7 record and is an $8 chance for the $2 million Spring Champion S. G1 on 28 October.
Bred by Arrowfield and Cloros Bloodstock, Ganbare is the fourth foal and first stakeswinner out of the city-winning sprinter-miler Mardi, a daughter of Group winner Bianca and great-grand-daughter of Group 1 winner Cariere.
Mardi has a 2YO Castelvecchio colt in training with Paul Messara & Leah Gavranich, followed by an Admire Mars colt and a Rebel Dane filly for her new owner Jen Campin.
