Flying Spur’s son wins Dubai feature

Flying Spur’s 5YO son Mushreq added another black type success to his record when he won yesterday’s inaugural running of the Meydan Singspiel S. 1800m LR on the opening meeting of the 2014 Dubai World Cup Carnival.

Trained by South African Mike De Kock for HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mushreq was settled off the pace by jockey Paul Hanagan, then asked to challenge 400 metres out. The pair soon hit the front to win by almost six lengths.

De Kock said, “We have to be delighted with that because we thought he would really need the run. He was a Group 2 winner last season and is hopefully still improving.”

Bred in Australia by Shadwell Stud, and sent to South Africa as a 2YO, Mushreq is yet another talented member of the celebrated Easy Date family that has produced Snippets, Not A Single Doubt, Rewaaya, Forensics, Sharnee Rose & Zizou, among many other class performers. He has now won five races, including a Group 2 mile at Meydan last February, and was second in the Greyville Golden Horseshoe S. G1 as a juvenile.

Mushreq is one of 90 stakeswinners by the now-retired champion sire Flying Spur, whose final crop of yearlings goes through Australia’s sale-rings in 2014. His seven lots sold on the first three days of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale have averaged $151,429, with the top price of $320,000 paid by the Hong Kong Jockey Club for Tarcoola Stud’s half-brother to Group 1 winner Costa Viva.

Five yearlings by Flying Spur will be offered during the final two sessions of the Magic Millions Sale, on Saturday evening and Sunday.
