First winners from Arrowfield’s Class of 2013

The first of Arrowfield’s 2014 sale yearlings began their preparation last Monday, and yesterday two runners from the Stud’s 2013 consignments made winning debuts at Rosehill and Morphettville.

Racing over 1100 metres in Sydney, the 2YO Snitzel colt Time for War bounced out smartly from the gates, led the field round the turn and responded well when challenged by a determined Double Happy (ex Hurl by Redoute’s Choice). Despite running greenly in the straight, Time for War kept up a strong gallop to win by a short neck.

Blake Ryan, stable foreman for trainer Gerald Ryan, believed Time For War would run well if he replicated his second barrier trial effort behind subsequent Rosehill winner Bold Circle.

“Once he got to the front today I thought he would give a good kick and he did. He’s done a good job and we’ve got something to work with.”

Time for War was bred by Arrowfield in partnership with South Africa’s Klawervlei Stud, from the winning Zabeel mare Lady Zabelia whose relatives include champion Might and Power, champion filly Mosheen and champion Hong Kong miler Lucky Owners.

Time for War was a $56,000 purchase by Darby Racing from the Inglis Scone Select Yearling Sale. Lady Zabelia foaled a Smart Missile filly in August and is now in foal to Animal Kingdom.

In Adelaide 2YO gelding More Vino (Hussonet-Bella Cantata by Stravinsky) scored nicely by a half-length for trainer Jon O’Connor who bought him for $22,000 from the Arrowfield draft at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in January.

More Vino is the second winner for his dam this season following the September success of his year-older sister Phaedra, trained by Paul Messara for the siblings’ breeders, Paul Favretto, Tony & Judy Hodgson and Arrowfield.

Bella Cantata, a city-winning half-sister to Inaflury (VATC One Thousand Guineas G1), has a yearling colt by Beneteau for the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale and is in foal to Animal Kingdom.

Arrowfield also bred and reared last month’s MRC Debutant S. LR winner Moonlight Hussler (Hussonet-Moonlight Music by Redoute’s Choice); however, he was sold from the Glenelg Park draft at the Magic Millions Adelaide Sale.
