Pariah's brother stars at Randwick trials

There was more than usual interest in Melik’s first appearance at the Randwick trials on Tuesday and he obliged with a quality performance.

The $2.5 million son of Redoute’s Choice and Secluded ran home strongly in the 735-metre trial to  score by 4.8 lengths in 42.98 – the last and fastest of five 2YO trials held over 735 metres on the Heavy8 track.

Watch Melik win his first trial at Randwick.

Melik was bought from the 2017 Arrowfield draft at Inglis Easter by Tim Stakemire for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum, with Arrowfield retaining a share in him. Like his year-older brother Pariah, he is trained by Peter & Paul Snowden.

It’s early days, but Melik’s display of natural racing ability is a good omen for Pariah, now standing at Arrowfield after a Group-winning career at two and three.

Talented younger siblings also feature in the pedigrees of  Arrowfield’s Champion Sires Redoute’s Choice and Snitzel.

The Group 1 successes of Platinum Scissors and Manhattan Rain supplied further evidence of the genetic strength that has powered the extraordinary career of Redoute’s Choice.

Ditto Snitzel’s three-quarter brother Hinchinbrook who was, like Pariah, a Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed, and is now a leading young sire.
