Redoute’s Choice influence grows

Mention “Redoute’s Choice dynasty” and Snitzel & Not A Single Doubt are naturally top of mind, but there’s plenty happening with the sire-line beyond those two spectacular stallions.

Take, for example, Saturday’s racing across the Tasman, which featured two early season stakes races for New Zealand 3YO fillies, a category that continues to throw up performers capable of competing in the best Australian company – think Bonneval, La Bella Diosa, Sofia Rosa, Rising Romance & Lucia Valentina.

The Hawke’s Bay Gold Trail S. 1200m G3 was won by Dijon Bleu, whose sire Burgundy is a Cambridge Stud-based sprinting son of Redoute’s Choice from Grand Exchezeaux (by Zabeel), so a three-quarter brother to leading New Zealand sire Darci Brahma.

Dijon Bleu, also a Listed winner this season, is Burgundy’s third stakes performer, after Listed winner Hard Merchandize and Singapore 2YO Bringer Of War from his 57-foal first crop. Cambridge Stud has announced that Burgundy, one of 18 stakes-siring sons of Redoute’s Choice, will serve more than 120 mares this Spring.

Not A Single Doubt’s Star Thoroughbreds-raced son Squamosa posted his first stakeswinner, the filly Kiwi Ida in Saturday’s CJC Canterbury Belle S. LR and she joins Dijon Bleu among the early chances for November’s NZ One Thousand Guineas G1.

Like Burgundy, Squamosa was a classy sprinting colt who found top form at three, winning the STC Run to the Rose G3 before running a close second to Toorak Toff in the Golden Rose G1. A son of juvenile stakeswinner Class Success, and the first son of Not A Single Doubt to go to stud, Squamosa shares his damsire Success Express with Champion Sire Savabeel.

Arrowfield’s 2017 roster includes  Redoute’s Choice sons with similar profiles whose striking first foals only increase confidence in their prospects of stud success.

Scissor Kick (whose dam is by Quest For Fame from the great Hasili family)  won at two and progressed quickly to Group success as Spring 3YOs. Like Squamosa, Scissor Kick was the Golden Rose G1 runner-up.
