Chains Of Love wins The Kosciuszko

From Arrowfield’s most celebrated family, Chains Of Love made her season debut from gate 12 and landed the $2 million The Kosciuszko with a never-say-die performance that sparked joyous celebration at Royal Randwick by a large Arrowfield contingent and slot-holder the Ben Clark Syndicate.

It is the second victory in the race, after Clear Thinking’s 2025 triumph, by Arrowfield’s home stable, trainers Paul Messara & Leah Gavranich and their dedicated team based next to the Stud outside Scone in the Hunter Valley.

Paul Messara said, “It’s a hard race to win, and to win it like that is extraordinary. I gave us no hope on the turn, to be honest. I thought we had absolutely no chance. Five deep all the way; it was not the run we were after, but I’m just so happy for connections.

“John Leaver is here, who owns the horse with us, and the slot-holders are a punter’s club from Scone. We are all locals, so it is going to be a big night tonight.”

Jockey Zac Lloyd deflected praise to the stable and the 4YO mare, now a $1.1 million earner after four wins and two placings, including a Listed third, from only 7 starts.

“Amazing. Full credit to Paul and Leah. To get this horse here first up and with a tough run to be as gritty as she was the last 50 metres. All credit to them – I didn’t do much.

“Obviously you don’t want to be 4 and 5 wide. They weren’t going quick. She is very big and I’d much rather be there than in on the fence. I was just focusing on her, just trying to keep her in a rhythm. Got near the front as we straightened. Just trusted that she will pick up through her gears. She’s a big horse and need a bit of space to wind up. Very tenacious. Helps being on fast horses.”

By multiple Champion Sire I Am Invincible, Chains Of Love and her stakes-winning full sister Waltz On By are among the 6 winners from 6 foals to race so far left by Thousand Guineas G1 winner Stay With Me (by Street Cry from Champion Miss Finland). Stay With Me’s promising 3YO son Power Broker (by Dundeel) is followed by a 2YO Dundeel filly and a filly foal by Too Darn Hot. The mare returns to Too Darn Hot this Spring.

Chains Of Love was bred and is raced by Arrowfield with Planette Thoroughbred & Belford Productions, the trio that raced Miss Finland and now breeds from her four of her daughters: Tuusula (by Hussonet), Earth Angel (by Animal Kingdom), Martha’s Choice (by Dundeel) and Stay With Me, as well as several grand-daughters.
