Sweet Redemption joins Snitzel stakeswinners

Trainer Gerald Ryan’s status as “Mr Snitzel” is well-established, but there’s a “Mrs Snitzel” too, and it’s not too hard to work out who she is.

At Rosehill on Saturday Sweet Redemption joined an impressive list of Snitzel stakeswinners sent out from Tulloch Lodge by Gai Waterhouse and, since 1 August, by the champion trainer’s new partnership with Adrian Bott.

The 4YO mare got the best of the start in the $150,000 ATC Festival S. 1500m G3 and, given a perfectly judged ride by Brenton Avdulla, was never headed, winning narrowly but well from Hazzabeel and Red Excitement.

It was Sweet Redemption’s fifth win from 18 starts – add eight placings and almost $300,000 prizemoney and it’s easy to see why the  Round Table Racing Syndicate that races her was so excited in the Rosehill mounting yard.

The Mackerells of Bell View Park Stud bred her and offered at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale where Bruce & Natasha Slade’s Round Table Racing & James Harron Bloodstock bought her for $120,000.

Adam Mackrell said, “She was a nice filly right from the word go … rangy type, very athletic. She’s out of a Red Ransom mare (Redeeming Lass) and that cross seems to have nicked well with Snitzel.

“One of the main reasons I like her though is that she’s so versatile and adaptable. Sweet Redemption has campaigned all over the place: won at Ipswich, won in Sydney, stakes placed in Melbourne, finished second in a Tasmanian Oaks and second in a Goulburn Cup. What a great horse for the owners.”

Snitzel’s 46th stakeswinner, and his 10th this season, Sweet Redemption has several juicy options over the next six weeks, including the $250,000 Villiers S. G2 on 17 December, a Listed Race in Brisbane and the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares on 14 January. Sweet Redemption joins Group 1 winners Sweet Idea & Wandjina, Group 3 winner El Divino and Listed winner Thronum as stakes-winning Snitzel progeny trained at Tulloch Lodge.

Snitzel will have 52 yearlings on offer at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.
