…and his 132nd stakeswinner

4YO Redoute’s Choice mare Into The Mist looked ready for a black type success when she resumed with a facile win at Morphettville three weeks ago, and sure enough, she was.

She settled comfortably on the rail behind the leading group in Saturday’s $175,000 SAJC Queen of the South S. G2, but seemed likely not to get her chance of victory until Jason Holder steered her across No Tricks at the 300-metre mark. That manoeuvre cost Holder a four-meeting suspension, but Into The Mist made the most of her opportunity and pressed on to score by almost a length from last year’s winner Atlantis Dream and Rocket Commander.

Into The Mist is the second winner of the race by Redoute’s Choice, also sire of Tango’s Daughter, successful in 2014, and his 132nd individual stakeswinner.

Watch Into The Mist win the SAJC Queen of the South S. G2.

Into The Mist’s trainer Tony McEvoy said, “She’s deserved to win a nice race like that, she’s been placed in a couple before so it’s satisfying to get a good win on her record.

“Her last start win at Morphettville was good and to win a Group 2 and being by Redoute’s Choice certainly helps her value.”

Into The Mist has now earned almost $230,000 from her five wins for her proud owner-breeder Peter Katelanis (who also races Not A Single’s Doubt’s Group 3-winning daughter Don’t Doubt Mamma), his partner Annie Leo, son Jordan and daughter Adele.

Peter says,  “I’ve been very patient with this mare, and Redoute’s Choice mares only get better with time. It’s very satisfying to see her match her mother’s deeds winning a Group 2, and I’m keen to see her get out to ten furlongs in two weeks’ time.”

That race is the $100,000 Centaurea S. LR, also at Morphettville, on 21 May.

Into The Mist’s value is enhanced by the excellent racing and breeding records of her dam, dual Group winner De Lago Mist (by Encosta De Lago), also responsible for multiple Listed winner Instinction, and her grand-dam, five-time stakeswinner In The Mist.

The combination of two champion sires is always likely to prove successful and but, even so, the Redoute’s Choice/Encosta De Lago nick is highly effective. Into The Mist is the sixth stakeswinner from only 42 named foals bred this way, after Group 1 winners Peeping and Musir, Group 3 winner and sire Beneteau, and Listed winners Burnstone & Essington.

Into The Mist brings up several new milestones for Redoute’s Choice. She takes his lifetime tally of stakeswinners to 132 (12 per cent of his runners), 14 of them successful this season; his record of black type wins to 275; and his progeny’s prizemoney over the $125 million mark.

And, with Australasian Oaks G1 winner Abbey Marie, she added the 12th same-day, same-track Group race double to Redoute’s Choice’s record.
