Guineas prospect for All American

“I think he might be a Caulfield Guineas horse so we will probably head that way” – that’s how co-trainer Peter Morgan assessed All American’s 2YO son Zebulon after his two-length win at Flemington on Saturday.

Zebulon is the fourth winner from four juvenile starters this season for Peter and his training partner Craig Widdison.

Jockey Linda Meech said, “He’s a very nice horse and still has a fair bit to learn. He just wanted to run in a bit when he got to the front and we did it the hard way today.”

After jumping from gate 14, Zebulon sat three wide during the early part of the race, and then peeled out to be the widest runner as the field entered the home straight. He picked up at the 300-metre mark to sprint home strongly from the favourite Profit Share and Allergic.

Zebulon was bred in New Zealand by Kathryn Picton-Warlow from Saint’s Review, an Irish-bred daughter of Saint Ballado and US stakeswinner Smashing Review.

Offered as a yearling by Lyndhurst Farm at the New Zealand Select Sale, Zebulon was bought for $60,000 by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock and is raced by Bruce & Jillian Mathieson and Richard Smith. Messrs Mathieson & Smith have recently enjoyed notable racing success as part-owners of dual Group 1 winner Foreteller.

All American was also represented on Saturday by The Big Rig (ex Catalina Winemixer by Stratum) who fought on well for second over 1000 metres at Kembla Grange.

All American has notched up five 2YO winners from his first crop, including Group 3 winner Bachman, stakes-placed filly Tender and smart Sydney winner Invisible. Tellingly, his major sale average for his first two crops has exceeded 7 times his service fee and his top price was set this year, when Shadwell paid $360,000 for the Emanday filly offered by Broadwater Thoroughbreds at the Inglis Easter Sale.
