Ascot track record falls to Redoute's Choice mare

Galician, a 4YO daughter of champion sire Redoute’s Choice, set a new 7-furlong track record at Ascot yesterday when winning the £100,000 Betfair International Stakes.

Sheikh Hamdan’s grey home-bred mare showed plenty of grit as she chased her stable-mate Es Que Love and then held off Trail Blaze to win by a half-length in 1.24.28. The previous record was set at the 2010 Royal Ascot meeting by Rainfall, whose trainer Mark Johnston also prepares Galician.

As reported by Sporting Life, John Ferguson, representing Sheikh Hamdan, said “She’s obviously an incredibly tough filly…She’s a well-bred filly conceived in Australia by Redoute’s Choice, who is known for his toughness, and she keeps delivering.”

Galician has now won six and placed in ten of her 28 starts, and further prizes now beckon in rich handicap or black type company.

Her dam Gweneira (by Machiavellian) was successful at one-and-a-quarter miles and is a half-sister to the dam of Sir Anthony & Lady O’Reilly’s French Group 1 winner Alpine Rose, now in foal to Redoute’s Choice after visiting him at HH The Aga Khan’s Haras de Bonneval this year.

Redoute’s Choice, sire of 20 stakeswinners worldwide in 2012/13, returns next month to Arrowfield where he will parade at the Stud’s Stallion Open House, 22-25 August. Click here for more information about the Arrowfield Stallion Open House.
