Thyme for champion sire’s 31st 2YO stakeswinner

Star juveniles are a bright thread in the tapestry of Redoute’s Choice’s career and a pair of fillies have added their own sparkle to the fabric this season.

Arrowfield graduate Honesty Prevails saluted in the ATC Widden S. G3 on 30 January and on Saturday Thyme For Roses scored a strong win in the $150,000 VRC TBV Thoroughbred Breeders S. 1200m G3.

Emphatically (by Not A Single Doubt) boxed on well to claim second and complete a father-son quinella, just ahead of Soviet Secret and Not A Single Doubt’s latest stakeswinner Selenia.

Watch Thyme For Roses win the VRC TBV Thoroughbred Breeders S. G3.

She is the 128th stakeswinner for Redoute’s Choice and the 31st of his progeny to achieve that status at two.

A debut winner at Warwick Farm back in October, Thyme For Roses has now earned $127,525 after four starts.

Gai Waterhouse’s Racing Manager Adrian Bott said, “She was very impressive. She was running away from them and it was a strong win.

“Gai trains her horses to get up on the speed and she was just too strong for them.”

Thyme For Roses is the first foal of the talented juvenile, two-time Group 3 and Magic Millions Classic winner Augusta Proud (by More Than Ready), and was bred by Kerry O’Brien and Gerard McConnal, who also raced her dam.  Augusta Proud is in foal to Snitzel.

Offered under the Broadwater Thoroughbreds banner at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, Thyme For Roses was knocked down at $450,000 to Waterhouse and US owner Jon Kelly. That partnership also bought Group 3-placed filly Slumber Party (by Snitzel) & debut winner Extra Olives (by Redoute’s Choice) from the Arrowfield draft at the same sale.

Few mares by More Than Ready have visited Redoute’s Choice, but all six of the resulting runners have won, five of them in city company. Arrowfield will offer the only yearling at next month’s Inglis Easter Sale bred this way, Lot 378, the filly out of Lator Gator.

Thyme For Roses and Honesty Prevails head a lively group of Redoute’s Choice juveniles this season with six winners so far, including Blue Diamond G1 third Zamzam, Group 2-placed Tale of Choice.

Along with his sons Not A Single Doubt (1st), Snitzel (3rd) and Beneteau (7th), the two-time Champion Sire of 2YOs has a firm family hold on the top of this season’s premiership table.
