Snitzel’s record goes to the next level

Brilliant young Arrowfield sire Snitzel turbo-charged his record today with a new stakeswinner and two outstanding Group 1 performers on a glittering day of racing at Rosehill.

All three horses are Arrowfield-breds, sold under the Bellerive Stud banner at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale in 2010 & 2011.

2YO filly Flying Snitzel (ex Hula Flight by Hula Town) opened the day’s proceedings with a powerful victory in the $125,000 ATC T.L. Bailleu S. 1400m G3 for a group of owners assembled by Chris & Michael Ward’s Triple Crown Syndications which purchased her for $25,000. Bred by the Arrowfield/Jungle Pocket partnership, she is Snitzel’s 6th stakeswinner and his third this season after Hot Snitzel and Snitzerland.

Two races later, Aliyana Tilde (ex Patronella by Mister C) secured third placing behind Mosheen and Streama in the $400,000 ATC Vinery Stud S. 2000m G1. Aliyana Tilde was a $50,000 buy in 2010 by Kembla Grange trainer Kerry Parker.

In the meantime at Caulfield the progressive Rangal Park-bred 4YO mare Sheila’s Star (Snitzel-Northeast Sheila by Keltrice) posted a winning margin of almost four lengths in her fifth career win, and third consecutive victory this year.

Then it was time for the $3.5 million ATC Golden Slipper 1200m G1. Snitzerland’s appearance in the mounting yard indicated that trainer Gerald Ryan had her cherry-ripe for the task, and she ran accordingly, leading the field into the straight and kicking strongly for home.

The filly’s jockey Corey Brown said afterwards, “I had the easiest run in front. I let her roll from the 400 metres and thought I was the winner.”

However, the Gai Waterhouse-trained colt Pierro overtook her late to score by a long neck, 1.5 lengths ahead of favourite Samaready. Not A Single Doubt ‘s daughter Doubtfilly delighted her owners with her brave fourth place finish.

Snitzerland’s earnings now total almost $875,000, and Snitzel holds fourth position on the Australian 2YO Sires’ list with $1,574,005. Snitzerland and Aliyana Tilde take Snitzel’s tally of Group 1 perfrormers to three, after Hot Snitzel who was 2nd in last year’s BRC T.J. Smith S. G1.
