Snitzel speeds up with stakeswinner No. 130

Back in August, Champion Sire Snitzel could boast that his progeny had averaged a stakes win every 13 days for the previous six years.

Remarkably, he’s improved on that exceptional statistic this season, posting 11 Group & Listed victories in the first 118 days of 2022/23. That works out at one stakes win every 10.7 days – a strike rate Snitzel also achieved last Spring.

His latest stakes success came at Caulfield on Saturday when his 3YO daughter Vienna Princess scored her maiden victory in the Twilight Glow S. 1400m LR at her 7th start for Chris Waller.

Arrowfield-bred filly Killiako (Maurice-Soft Sand), sold for $26,000 through Magic Millions online, earned black type with a solid effort for third.

Jockey Craig Williams said, “I spoke to Joh [assistant trainer Joh Taylor] and she said she’s going really well, forget about that last run and be really confident today.

“They were really happy with her work on Tuesday morning and she was pretty dominant today.”

Vienna Princess is Snitzel’s 130th career stakeswinner, and the 5th stakes-winning Snitzel bred by Gerry Harvey & sold at a Magic Millions Sale, after her relative, multiple Group winner Best Of Bordeaux, 2YO Listed winners Golconda & Stroll and last month’s Wakeful S. G2 winner Zennzella.

She was a $400,000 purchase at Magic Millions Gold Coast for Peter & Patty Tighe’s Magic Bloodstock and co-owners Noel & Maria Greenhalgh, Julia Ritchie’s Bangaloe Stud, Ken Warriner, Noel Werrett, Jack Lake and Col & Jannene Madden.

Vienna Princess’s dam Graciousness (by Street Cry) is a winning half-sister of four stakeswinners including Group 1 winner & sire Casino Prince (by Flying Spur), as well as the dams of Best Of Bordeaux and Prince Fawaz (J.J. Atkins S. G1). Graciousness has a Written Tycoon colt for Magic Millions 2023 and foaled a Snitzel colt in August.

Four stakeswinners from only 17 named foals put a big tick beside the Snitzel/Street Cry cross, also seen in two lots catalogued for Magic Millions: Lot 420, Arrowfield’s Snitzel-Star Fashion filly and Lot 539, Baramul’s Snitzel-Wartime Lovers filly.

Snitzel has 46 yearlings catalogued for Magic Millions 2023  including
4 fillies & 6 colts offered by Arrowfield.
