Snitzel sets the pace on the Premiership
The race for Australia’s 2019/20 Champion Sire’s title has been exceptionally competitive, with five stallions heading the Premiership table at various times since October.
Since three-time Champion Snitzel took over the No. 1 spot on 11 April, when Splintex became his 100th stakeswinner on the second day of The Championships, he has steadily extended his lead. Now, after racing on 10 May, he has a break of $560,000 on Pierro, with a further $658,000 back to I Am Invincible.
A run of 29 wins in 29 days has added more than $900,000 to Snitzel’s prizemoney as well as another new stakeswinner. That gives him 15 stakeswinners this season, ahead of Pierro & I Am Invincible, each with eleven.
Snitz took out the $120,000 Gosford RC Takeover Target S. 1200m LR at Randwick and joined Snitzel’s 20th 2YO winner for the season, Perfect Radiance (on debut at Newcastle), Dissolution (at Doomben) and Bottega (at Randwick) to give Snitzel a four-win bag on Saturday.

Snitz’s trainer Matt Dunn said, “You would take him to a Stradbroke on that performance. He was dominant today as he was last start. Setting up a big lead like that and hanging on as he did, it’s a career best for him.”
The Bob Charley AO S. LR at Randwick on 6 June is a likely option for the 5YO gelding who was bred by Ken & Jenny Breese from their very good multiple Group winner Tickle My (by Perugino).
Originally sold at the Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale, Snitz was purchased for $140,000 by Jim Kennedy from the Magic Millions 2YOs In Training Sale. He has won nine of his 25 starts, earning $492,000 for his large group of owners managed by Mitch Lowe’s Viva Racing.
