Singapore double for Arrowfield graduates
A pair of Arrowfield-bred 3YOs gave trainer Michael Freedman a double this evening in Singapore.
Flying Spur ‘s son Super Spur also gave the now-retired mare What A Party (by Bluebird) her fourth winner from six foals to race when he broke his maiden in the 1600m Generosity Stakes.

Super Spur was settled well off the speed in the running and began to make ground coming to the turn. When his jockey Joao Moreira pulled him out three wide into clear air, he quickly joined the leaders but ran greenly, allowing Darcistar to challenge him. Moreira straightened Super Spur who fought back gamely to win by a nose.
Bred by Arrowfield in partnership with DHK Investments Pty Ltd, Super Spur was offered by Lyndhurst Farm at the 2010 New Zealand Premier Sale where he was purchased for $220,000 by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds. He is raced in Singapore by the Joy ‘N’ Happiness Stable, which enjoyed Group 2 success at Kranji on Friday evening with another Blue Sky purchase, Super Easy.
Michael Freedman said of Super Spur, “”He’s still maturing but he’s got the makings of being a nice stayer and he gives the impression he should get further once he knows what racing is about…We’ll send him for a bit of a break now and bring him back in the New Year and see where he goes to from there.”
Three races later Freedman and Moreira were back in the winner’s circle, this time with the Mummify Stable, owner of Charge Foward ‘s 3YO son Rush (ex Flidais by Timber Country).
Rush worked home strongly in the 1400-metre Charity Stakes Graduation to beat off a spirited challenge from Dreamcatcher to score by three parts of a length, and register his third win from five starts. Like Super Spur, he is now likely to spell and may be tried over ground next time in.
Another talented 3YO son of Charge Forward, Sabrage has won at 2000 metres this season, and Rush’s female family brings a fair measure of stamina to the genetic table. Flidais won at 1850 metres, and was placed in the 2000-metre AJC Adrian Knox S. G3, while her dam Electronic was a double Group 1 winner up to 2600 metres.
Bred by Arrowfield & Planette Thoroughbred Trading Pty Ltd, Rush was sold for $75,000 from the Arrowfield draft at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, with Magic Millions the buyer as agent. Flidais foaled a sister to Rush last month and Arrowfield will offer her yearling filly by Snitzel at the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. Flidais has been served again by Snitzel.
Snitzel recorded a win at Kranji on Friday evening, courtesy of his Steven Burridge-trained son Gold Pyramid (ex Encarta by Westminster), who scored by a neck at his first start.
