Redoute’s Choice & sons in sizzling form

It has been a splendid season for Redoute’s Choice in his own right, with 17 Group & Listed winners worldwide taking his lifetime tally to 89 stakeswinners, 21 of them at Group 1 level.

In the prime of his own career, Redoute’s Choice is now setting the pace as a sire of sires. Today Snitzel became the sixth of his sons to sire a Group 1 winner when 2YO colt Sizzling displayed toughness to match his class in the $500,000 BRC The T.J. Smith 1600m G1.

The other five Group 1 sires by Redoute’s Choice are Fast ‘n’ Famous (sire of Queensland Oaks winner & today’s Derby runner-up Quintessential), Stratum (Crystal Lily & Streama), Bradbury’s Luck (Luckygray, who also won impressively in Perth today), Duelled (Shootoff) and Not A Single Doubt (domestic Singapore G1 winner Always Certain).

Sizzling’s trainer Kelso Wood said after today’s win, “I was really worried about 100 metres out and wasn’t sure if he would get there but somehow he found another gear. He’s a marvellous horse and he’s got a great disposition.”

Sizzling prevailed by a short head from a gallant Kabayan, with Academus just over two lengths away in third place.

Sizzling has now won five of his eight starts, three of them at Group level, and almost $800,000 in prizemoney for a group of owners including David & Diane Devine, Mick Power, Nev Morgan and AFL legend Leigh Matthews. He will now spell with the VRC Ascot Vale S. G1 down the straight at Flemington on Derby Day a possible spring target for him.

John & Trish Muir’s Milburn Creek Thoroughbred Stud bred Sizzling and sold him from the Evergreen Stud draft to agent John Foote at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale for $260,000. The colt’s dam Admirelle (by General Nediym) has a weanling filly by Flying Spur .

Sizzling heads Snitzel’s tally of eight stakeswinners, five of them successful this season. Snitzel has had 13 other stakes performers in 2011/12, and now leads Stratum on the Australian 3rd Season Sires’ list with prizemoney of more than $5 million.

Snitzel stands at Arrowfield at a 2012 fee of $33,000 inc. GST.
