A week after claiming the first Group 1 of the season with Samadoubt, son of Not A Single Doubt, Scales of Justice has made it two from two for the Arrowfield sire taking out Saturday’s $1 million New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Given a copybook ride by Dean Yendall, Scales of Justice sat just off a strong speed, coming off heels early in the straight before driving clear to win by three-quarters of a length over So Si Bon and Alizee.

“He had a superior run through the race, they went a solid tempo, I produced him early like I did when I rode him here first-up (in the Bletchingly) and let him rip for me and I thought ‘I hope they don’t get near me’,” Yendall said

“At the 100 (metre mark) they were sort of closing in but he fought them off really easily.”

A Group 1 winner in 2016 Railway Stakes, Scales Of Justice has had a remarkable return to racing after having 12 months on the side lines recovering from back and feet issues.

“I didn’t give this horse anything that he didn’t already have” trainer Lindsay Smith said to Racing.com.

“He’s had a lot of people help him, from the vets to the farriers, to the team at home. They have all done a remarkable job and I am just the lucky person to be here today”.

With a total of six Stakes victories, Scales of Justice now claims an overall record of 11 wins, 9 seconds and 3 thirds from 26 starts with earnings of $2,162,850, making him Not A Single Doubt’s third highest prize money earner behind multiple Group 1 winners Kenedna and Miracles of Life.

The Group 1 win by Scales of Justice has also pushed Not A Single Doubt (a consistent Top 10 sire for the past five years) into an early lead on the sire table, and although it is very early days, it is safe to say that the son of Redoute’s Choice has an exciting Spring ahead with Stakes winners Single Bullet, Qafila, and Everest Contestant Classique Legend also all looking to return in fabulous form.

Following his victory in the Memsie, Scales Of Justice is now a $26 chance to win the $5m G1 Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 26. Now wouldn’t that be a fairy tale finish!
