New city winner for Smart Missile

Smart Missile’s productive week continued at Warwick Farm on Wednesday when 2YO colts Jericho and Cadogan ran first and third over 1100 metres.

Watch Jericho’s win at Warwick Farm.

Jericho landed in the middle of the field and settled there, covering plenty of extra ground, with Cadogan tracking him until the home turn when Cadogan peeled out and both colts pushed forward. Jericho kicked at the 200-metre mark and pegged back Virgilio who was relentless on the fence, while Cadogan finished strongly for third, a length away.

It was the second start for both colts, after Jericho’s good debut fourth at Rosehill behind subsequent Group 1 winner Yankee Rose in November, and Cadogan’s fifth at Canterbury last month.

Co-trainer Paul Snowden said of the stable’s 100th winner this season, “He’s always shown great talent at home but we didn’t come here today thinking it was a given, he still needed to go out there and do it – and thankfully he did with a bit of determination.

“There are more wins in store for this horse and we’ll give him every opportunity to get up to Brisbane this campaign.”

Jericho was bred by Astute Bloodstock’s Louis Le Metayer and partners from Advance To Go (by Red Ransom), whose siblings include Group 1 winner Miss Danehill, multiple Group winner Pentastic and Listed winner Point Made. This is a branch of the wonderful family of Denise’s Joy, through her daughter Clifton Gardens.

Advance To Go has a yearling colt by Not A Single Doubt, already named Canaletto, and a weanling colt by All Too Hard.

Initially sold to agent Seamus Mills at as a Magic Millions weanling for $75,000, Jericho was offered again as a yearling at Magic Millions where Triple Crown’s Chris & Michael Ward paid $180,000 for him.

Cadogan, the first foal of US-bred mare Cadazzle (by Malibu Moon), is raced by his breeders Bob & Fiona Guth and trained by Bjorn Baker. Cadazzle has a yearling colt by Pierro and is in foal to Snitzel.

Jericho joins Listed winner Sassy ‘N’ Smart and Missile Coda on the winners’ list for Smart Missile, who also added two new stakes performers, Fromparis Withlove at Caulfield and Smart Manoeuvre at Morphettville, to his record last Saturday.

Smart Missile remains one of Australia’s most popular young sires, and his second crop averaged more than six times his fee at this year’s Magic Millions, Inglis Easter & Inglis Melbourne sales.
