Mallory wins the Widden Stakes

The Widden Stakes has been a happy race for Arrowfield-connected 2YO fillies in recent years, being won by Snitzel’s daughters Fireworks (2015), Teaspoon (2017) & Away Game (2020) and the Redoute’s Choice filly Honesty Prevails in 2016.

Not A Single Doubt’s daughter Mallory has joined them with a gritty performance at her second start to win the 2021 $160,000 renewal of the 1100-metre race. Most pleasingly, she won in 1:06.03 – more than a half-second faster than the colt Zethus’ winning time one race later in the Canonbury S. G3.

A member of Arrowfield’s Easter Private draft, Mallory was bred in partnership with Matt & Jo Cloros and is the Stud’s 53rd graduate stakeswinner since 2014, and Not A Single Doubt’s 75th lifetime stakeswinner.

Mallory’s US-bred dam Panorama Ridge (by Empire Maker) is also the dam of 2YO Listed winner Sassy ‘N’ Smart and has a yearling colt by Pariah in the Milburn Creek draft at next month’s Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Trained by Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou, Mallory’s likely next target will be the Sweet Embrace S. G2 at Rosehill on 27 February. She is rated a $26 chance for both the Blue Diamond G1 on 20 February and the Golden Slipper G1 on 20 March.

Sterling said, “She’s well-schooled and Jason [Collett] got her in a nice rhythm…I was impressed by knowing how much improvement she has got in her.

“She will derive great benefit fitness-wise from that. I think when she steps up to 1200m or 1400m, you will see the best of her.”

A few hours after Mallory’s victory, Not A Single Doubt’s 5YO son Samizdat  posted his third stakes success when he stormed home to claim the Perth Racing Scenic Blast S. 1200m LR for

Bred by Amelia Park from the More Than Ready mare Sambar, Samizdat was a $325,000 Magic Millions Perth buy and has now won six of his 14 starts for Gangemi Thoroughbreds.

One thing is certain: the much-loved son of Redoute’s Choice, retired a year ago, and leading the current Australian General Sires’ premiership, will end his stud career with a bang, not a whimper!

Not A Single Doubt has two yearlings from his penultimate crop at Inglis Premier, and 11 lots catalogued for Inglis Easter, including two fillies in Arrowfield’s consignment.
