A brilliant week of graduate success

Last Friday’s sparkling stakes double by Arrowfield-bred-&-raced pair Modella (Castelvecchio-Ms Rodarte by I Am Invincible) and Matusalem (The Autumn Sun-Miss Dodwell by Falbrav) kicked off a terrific week of Arrowfield graduate performances.
4YO graduate Beadman (Snitzel-Iffranesia by Iffraaj; sold at Magic Millions for $900,000), already a dual Group winner, produced an enormous run from last to finish 3rd behind the brilliant Tempted & Headwall in the Concorde Stakes G2. Trained by Peter Snowden for Newgate, China Horse Club & partners, Beadman is aiming at the Golden Eagle.
On Saturday, 3YO colt Wolf Gap (Palace Pier-Bandol by Snitzel; Magic Millions, $280,000) put up a seriously impressive run from last to snatch 2nd in the McKenzie S. 1300m LR at Sandown – posting the best sectionals for most of the race, including a 33.91 final 600 metres. He showed a lot of promise in his debut 2YO win followed by a 3rd placing behind Paradoxium & Stretan Ruler in the Todman S. G2, so it’s exciting to see him resume so well. Bandol, also dam of Group-placed Katsumi Orochi (by Maurice), is a winning daughter of dual US Grade 1 winner Miss Match.
The Arrowfield brand remained in the winner’s circle all week, carried by a further 10 winners, including six 3YOs with major Spring prizes on their dance-cards.
Saturday – success at Randwick & Eagle Farm
- 4YO gelding Decorum (Snitzel-Ms Bad Behavior; Inglis Easter, $550,000), a full brother of G1 winner & sire Switzerland and 2YO Group winner St Gotthard, resumed with a 2-length win over 1200m at Randwick, his 4th win from 6 starts for Michael Freedman. He holds a Caulfield Cup nomination. (And it’s the yearling Decorum’s brand that features in this story’s lead image.)
- Fukubana (Dundeel-Sekiyama by Lonhro; Inglis Easter, $250,000) returned to the winner’s circle over 1400m at Eagle Farm for Matthew Dunn. Sekiyama is a full sister of multiple stakeswinner Rainier.
Sunday – an eye-catching debut
- 3YO colt Aemond (Written Tycoon-Rhaenys by Redoute’s Choice; Magic Millions, $400,000) bolted in by 4 lengths on debut over 1100m at Bendigo for Anthony & Sam Freedman. His dam is a Redoute’s Choice half-sister to Dundeel.
Wednesday – 4 metro winners in Melbourne & Sydney
- 3YO filly Regal Ambition (Palace Pier-Dame Pattie by Snitzel; Magic Millions, $230,000) won at Sandown for Team Hayes; and 4YOs Columbus (Dundeel-Tides by Fastnet Rock; Inglis Easter, $1.5 million) & Gentle Giant (Maurice-Fenway by High Chaparral; Inglis Easter, $230,000) and 3YO colt Wonka (Snitzel-Re Edit by Camelot; Inglis Classic, $360,000) all scored at Randwick, for the Les Bridge, Waterhouse & Bott and Chris Waller stables respectively. Wonka earned a $100,000 Inglis Xtra bonus and, with Unhinged & Cotoletta Cut, made up a trifecta for Snitzel & the Waller stable. Dame Pattie is an unraced daughter of Champion 3YO Filly Alinghi; Tides is a winning full sister of Champion 3YO Filly Shoals; Group 1 winner Fenway, from the famous Denise’s Joy family, is also the dam of Group winner Williamsburg; and Re Edit has also left last season’s two-time Group winner Origin Of Love to Snitzel.
Thursday – a 3YO double for Dundeel
- 3YO colt Power Broker (Dundeel-Stay With Me by Street Cry; Inglis Easter, $750,000) scored by 2.3 lengths over 1500m at Hawkesbury, his 2nd start for Edward O’Rourke, and owners including his breeders Arrowfield, Belford & Planette. Power Broker’s Group 1-winning dam Stay With Me is doing a tremendous job of keeping her mother Miss Finland’s name in black type pedigrees, thanks to dual Listed winner Waltz On By, Group-placed Duvana and stakes-placed Chains Of Love, confirmed this week for a slot in the $2 million The Kosciuszko on 17 October.
- 3YO colt Call Me Coach (Dundeel-Mother’s Mercy by Redoute’s Choice; Inglis Classic, $440,000) also won at Hawkesbury, landing a Super Maiden by 1.4 lengths for Pinecliff Racing and Anthony & Sam Freedman, despite racing greenly. His dam is a winning three-quarter sister to Group 1 winners Autumn Angel & Baraqiel.
- And at Seymour 3YO filly Nikitria (The Autumn Sun-Missybeel by Savabeel; Inglis Easter, $550,000) won her 3rd start, over 1300m for Clinton McDonald, by pinning her ears back and edging her bold white head past the hot favourite Platinum Pearl. Her trainer says,”We think she can be an Oaks filly…we will be looking to go to the Wakeful and those types of races.” Nikitria is the second foal of Missybeel, who won two Group races in Sydney.
