King’s Rose 2nd in Emirates S. G1

Redoute’s Choice has once again firmed up his lead on the Australian sires’ list, thanks to his high-class daughter King’s Rose, who ran the closest of seconds in today’s $1 million VRC Emirates S. 1600m G1 at Flemington.

Piloted by Black Caviar’s regular rider Luke Nolen, the 4YO mare peeled out from the pack at the top of the straight and a decisive turn of foot put her in front by the 300-metre mark. Secret Admirer powered home gamely on the inside to secure third placing, but it was Albert the Fat’s challenge to King’s Rose that proved successful, by a short half-head.

Of course, the winner’s $600,000 prize would have been most welcome, but King’s Rose’s owner-breeder, Dr Gene Tsoi no doubt shares Arrowfield’s warm appreciation of her outstanding spring campaign. From five starts she has added a pair of Group 2 victories, two Group 1 seconds and $585,500 to her own record and that of her champion sire.

King’s Rose, from Nureyev’s Girl by Nureyev, is one of six Australian stakeswinners this season by Redoute’s Choice who remains on top of the sires’ list with $3,849,486.

Excluding Nicobar, whose only Australian runner is the Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden.
