Group double for dynamic dynasty

Redoute’s Choice and his Arrowfield barnmate sons Snitzel and Not A Single Doubt have barely missed a beat this Spring.

The dynamic trio have posted stakes victories in all but two of the 16 weekends since 1 August. That’s a total of 33 Group & Listed victories in Australia, France & New Zealand.

The latest additions to that imposing record came at Sandown last Saturday courtesy of a Group race double by Payroll (by Not A Single Doubt) and Long Time Ago (by Redoute’s Choice).

Payroll has progressed every season since her debut 2YO win, and earned stakes-winning status in Brisbane during the winter. The 5YO mare went one better at Sandown, producing a resolute finish to snatch the $150,000 MRC Eclipse S. 1800m G3 from Kidmenever and Jacquinot Bay.

She has now earned almost $450,000, a handy return on the $80,000 that trainer Richard Laming paid breeder & vendor MacQuarie Stud for her at the 2014 Magic Millions Sale.

Watch Payroll win the MRC Eclipse S. G3.

It’s been a wonderful Spring for Payroll’s dam Workhard, whose 4YO son Arbeitsam (by Snitzel) rounded off a strong winter campaign with success in the Hawkesbury Rowley Mile LR. A daughter of Red Ransom from the family of Group 1 winner Bawalaksana and Group 3 winner Shaaheq (by Redoute’s Choice), Workhard is foaling this Spring to Scissor Kick.

Payroll is one of Not A Single Doubt’s six stakeswinners this season, a group headed by Caulfield Guineas G1 winner Mighty Boss. Not A Single Doubt holds fifth spot on the General Sires’ list with close to $5 million.

A Doomben double by 2YO Singular Sensation & 3YO Winter Bride rounded out Not A Single Doubt’s day, while back in Sydney, his 3YO daughter Pretty Fast scored her third straight win at Rosehill for Sheikh Khalifa and the Snowden stable.

Not A Single Doubt finished a rewarding weekend with his first stakeswinner as a broodmare sire, when Seasons Bloom (by Captain Sonador) won the HKJC Jockey Club Mile G2.

Completing the Sandown Group double in the final race on the card, the $150,000 MRC Summoned S. 1500m G3, was John Singleton’s home-bred 4YO mare Long Time Ago, the first foal of Australian Oaks G1 winner Once Were Wild (by Johannesburg).

She capped a tremendous fortnight in Melbourne for her trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, in the Group & Listed winner’s circle five times during Cup Week at Flemington, including after the VRC Oaks G1.

Waterhouse said of Long Time Ago, “We aimed her at this race all along and she’s been down here in Melbourne for a month getting ready so we’re delighted.”

Watch Long Time Ago win the MRC Summoned S. G3.

Long Time Ago is stakeswinner No. 152 and the 100th Group winner for Redoute’s Choice, represented in Australia this season by two other Group 3 winners, star colt Pariah and 5YO mare Ravi. A winning double at Rosehill on Saturday highlighted a pair of 4YOs, Redouble & Glenall, with a good chance of joining them.
