Group 1 triumph for Redoute’s Choice sire son

Fast ‘n’ Famous became the fifth sire son of Redoute’s Choice to leave a Group 1 winner when his 3YO daughter Quintessential powered to victory in last Saturday’s $400,000 BRC Queensland Oaks 2400m G1.

Bred by the late Philip Esplin from Zalinda (by Zabeel), Fast ‘n’ Famous himself won at Group 3 level and placed second in the AJC Galaxy H. G1 before beginning his stud career at Waikato Stud in 2007. He now joins Stratum (sire of Crystal Lily & Streama), Bradbury’s Luck (sire of Luckygray), Duelled (sire of Shootoff) and Not A Single Doubt (sire of domestic Singapore G1 winner Always Certain) to make a quintet of Group 1 sires by Redoute’s Choice.

Quintessential’s win also provided New Zealand owner Greg Tomlinson with an outstanding result for his substantial recent investment in thoroughbreds, under the name of Nearco Stud.

His bloodstock manager Adrian Clark says, “Winning a Group One race for Greg is about as good as it gets for me…He has put his trust in me & my ability to build a racing team and broodmare band and this is a massive result in a short space of time.”

“Greg has been aggressive in building a fantastic band of broodmares and this year Nearco will send around 40 mares to stud, the majority of which are stakes-performed young mares with big pedigrees. Quintessential is from the first bunch of yearlings I have selected for him, so it’s fair to say we’ve had a flying start.”

Quintessential was bred by Brent & Cherry Taylor’s Trelawney Thoroughbred Ltd and offered under their banner at the 2010 New Zealand Select Sale where Adrian purchased her for $70,000. She has now won four of her 11 starts and around $350,000.

Adrian reports that Quintessential has come through the Oaks in great shape and all going well will take her place in this Saturday’s $500,000 Queensland Derby G1. There are good omens in the recent history of the Derby to support her chances: Redoute’s Choice sired the 2007 & 2010 winners (Empires Choice and Dariana), and his grandson Shootoff won the race last year.

Ten sire sons of Redoute’s Choice have now left a total of 45 stakeswinners among them. The list is headed by Stratum (12 SW), Not A Single Doubt (9 SW), and Snitzel (8 SW) whose brilliant 2YO son Sizzling is hot favourite for Saturday’s $500,000 BRC The T.J. Smith G1.
