Gerald Ryan’s next Redoute’s Choice star
If Saturday’s $250,000 BRC Grand Prix S. G3 winner Chains Of Honour can emulate Gerald Ryan’s two previous stars by Redoute’s Choice, he will become much more than the late, great Champion Sire’s 169th stakeswinner.
Ryan famously trained Snitzel to win six Group & Listed Races including the 2006 MRC Oakleigh Plate G1. Four years later he prepared one of Redoute’s Choice’s best daughters Melito to win the ATC TJ Smith S. G1 & Qld Tatt’s Winter S. G1 (now known as the Tattersall’s Tiara).
Chains Of Honour won’t be tackling any of those races, but a Group 1 Derby or Cup race looks within his capability after he led for the final 1400 metres of the Grand Prix and, despite racing waywardly in the straight, finished off with verve to score by 2.5 lengths from the promising Mission Phoenix.

Gerald Ryan said, “Never did I think he would end up leading, but once he was there I wasn’t worried because I knew he would just keep going.”
“He will go home to the water walker and then we can see how he looks. The Australian Derby certainly isn’t off the table.”
With a Group 3 victory and wins at Hawkesbury & Gosford from his first four starts, Chains Of Honour is beginning to live up to his superb Classic pedigree. His dam Faint Perfume (by Shamardal) won the VRC Oaks G1 and STC Storm Queen S. G1, and Redoute’s Choice’s 36 Group 1 winners include five Derby victors and 7 Oaks winners.
Chains Of Honour is raced by his breeder Sun Stud which purchased him in utero with his Champion mother for $700,000 from Think Big Stud at the 2016 Inglis Broodmare Sale. Faint Perfume has a 2YO colt Maranoa (by Snitzel) in the Waterhouse & Bott stable and last year produced her first filly, by Redoute’s Choice.
Six new stakeswinners, including Group 1 winners Loire (in New Zealand) and Danceteria (in Germany), and a total of 15 stakes wins have extended Redoute’s Choice’s magnificent stud record since his death on 26 March this year.
Redoute’s Choice has nine lots catalogued for Magic Millions Gold Coast 2020, including three colts and a filly in Arrowfield’s consignment.
