Geisel Park produces a new stakeswinner for Starcraft

The innovative promotion that launched the stud career of Group 1 sire Starcraft added the 14th stakeswinner to his record today when the Geisel Park home-bred Mr Vadim won the $130,000 Kalgoorlie Hannan’s H. 1400m LR.

His dam Femme d’Affaire (by Woodman) was among the group of mares Starcraft’s owners Paul & Lyndall Makin purchased and re-sold in foal to their champion under the Starcraft Promotion banner at the 2007 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

The launch proved highly successful at the time and the Starcraft foals bred from those mares include Group winners Do You Think and Starcheeka, as well as Mr Vadim.

Femme d’Affaire was a $185,000 purchase for Geisel Park, established six years ago at the historic Myalup Farm in Western Australia by Eddie & Kylie Rigg. They sent Femme d’Affaire back to Starcraft and bred The Social Network, a winner and placed in both the WA Derby G2 and WA Oaks G3.

Mr Vadim went through the ring at the 2009 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale and is trained by Peter Fernie for Geisel Park in partnership with the East Meets West Syndicate & K.M. Hunter. The good-looking chestnut gelding has now won 7 races and more than $175,000.

Starcraft, sire of dual Group 1 winners Star Witness and We Can Say It Now, also has Group-winning mare Crafty Irna in Thursday’s Newcastle Cup G3, and 3YO colt Havana in Saturday’s ATC Heritage S. LR.

Starcraft’s 2013 fee is $22,000 inc. GST.
