Forging High Chaparral’s legacy

Coolmore’s acquisition of Super Seth in a substantial multi-million dollar deal casts a bright light on Dundeel’s pivotal role in the High Chaparral sire-line downunder, as well as his 13 spectaularly well-bred colts at Inglis Easter 2026.

Dundeel now joins Champion Sires Snitzel and Written Tycoon as the only stallions with two or more Group 1-siring sons in NSW: his Arrowfield barnmate Castelvecchio, sire of Group 1 winners Aeliana & El Castello from his first crop; and Super Seth, who has left four elite winners from his first two crops conceived at Waikato Stud.

A third Dundeel son, Randwick Guineas & Doncaster Mile winner Celestial Legend served his first book of mares last Spring at Woodside Park Stud in Victoria. The stud career of a fourth son, outstanding triple Group 1 winner Militarize, was unfortunately brief because of low fertility.

It is significant that all three of Dundeel’s sons now at stud were bred and sold as yearlings by Arrowfield: Castelvecchio & Celestial Legend at Inglis Classic, and Super Seth at Inglis Easter 2018 where he was purchased for $280,000 by Dean Hawthorne for Jonathan Munz’s Pinecliff Racing.

Together those three colts won 3 Guineas, a Champagne Stakes and a Doncaster Mile, helping to build a formidable record for Dundeel who has left more 2YO Group 1 winners than I Am Invincible, and more Group 1 performers than Zoustar from his Australian crops.

Arrowfield will offer 10 of the 13 Dundeel colts at next month’s Inglis Easter Sale and as might be expected for a crop conceived on a fee of $82,500 inc. GST, they are out of a superb group of mares, as Bloodstock Manager Jon Freyer explains.

“We’re selling a full brother of Celestial Legend, one of four Dundeel colts out of Snitzel mares in the draft, as well as colts from Group 2 winners Noire and Super Cash, colts from the families of Champions Winx & Beholder, and colts bred on the same crosses as Super Seth and Militarize.

“We rate this the best group of Dundeel yearlings, colts and fillies, that we’ve ever offered. They are the best measure of how we view Dundeel and where he ranks among Australia’s best stallions.”

Newhaven Park, Widden & Amarina sell the other three Dundeel colts, out of Champion 2YO & 3YO Filly English (by Encosta de Lago) & multiple Group winner Fiesta (by I Am Invincible), and a Written Tycoon half-sister to dual Group winner Sword Of Light.

As he anchors High Chaparral’s legacy of exceptional racing class in Australia, Dundeel is also building his own dynasty. With his best-bred progeny only now coming on stream, his future as a sire of sires looks increasingly secure.
