Flying Spur debutante Satin Shoes skips home

It’s no surprise to see Flying Spur , sire of five Group One-winning 2YOs, leave a new juvenile winner, but the sparkling manner of his daughter Satin Shoes‘ debut win at Randwick today has trainer Clarry Conners targeting nothing less than the 2011 Golden Slipper.

He told AAP’s Caryl Williamson after the race, “She will go out now and come back for the autumn races and the Slipper.

“She is only in her first preparation. She took longer to come in from the breakers and it’s pretty good to see her win like that.

“She is a very nice horse in the making.”

Bred by Bruce Neill’s Classic Thoroughbreds (also responsible for SW Motspur, by Flying Spur), Satin Shoes is from Group 1 winner Star Satire (by Volksraad), already the dam of multiple Group winner Zarzuela.

Satin Shoes’ yearling sale price reflects her pedigree: she was purchased for $700,000 by De Burgh Equine from the Cressfield draft at the 2010 Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

It’s been a good week for Flying Spur fillies, with a pair of 3YOs also posting city wins on Wednesday. 3YO Spurcific (ex Exact by Marauding) broke her maiden in rewarding fashion at Caulfield, adding a $100,000 Inglis bonus to her $42,700 prizemoney; and 3YO Miss Midas (ex Bright Gleam by Jugah) made it 2-for-2 at Warwick Farm.

A run to watch behind Satin Shoes was that of another first-start filly, Saramenha ( SnitzelSpeedy Topaze). She missed the start badly and ran home well for fifth.
