Celebrity Girl (ex Dashing Granada by Keltrice) could hardly have been more impressive in her first start since October. “She is well above average,” said her trainer Mark Kavanagh. “She settles well and her mother’s side of the family suggests she will be able to get over ground.”
Bred by Bramleigh Holdings, and raced by Trevor and Beth Robertson, she won at Sandown on debut last April and, after a winter spell, returned for a first-up victory in the VRC Cap D’Antibes S. LR at Flemington in September.
Celebrity Girl was demoted from first to fourth in the MRC 1000 Guineas Prelude G3 and followed up with a Group 2 third in the Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington. Her spring carnival finished with an unplaced effort behind her stablemate Atlantic Jewel in the MRC 1000 Guineas G1 at Caulfield.
Kavanagh bought Celebrity Girl for $500,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2010 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. “She was a pretty good sort,” Kavanagh recalled. “She had a massive girth and a really nice walk.” All going well her 2012 autumn campaign will culminate in two Group 1 events, the Sangster S. and Goodwood H. at Morphettville.
Celebrity Girl is from Flemington stakeswinner Dashing Granada who foaled a Starcraft colt last September.
Starcraft has 11 yearlings catalogued for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale including three colts in the Bellerive Stud draft .
