Castelvecchio weanlings sell up to $160,000
Five foals from Castelvecchio’s first crop sold for a healthy average price of $115,000 at this week’s Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, representing an early return of 3.8 times the dual Group 1 winner’s opening fee.
Top price of $160,000 was achieved by Kenmore Lodge for the attractive colt out of Wynnstay Avenue (by Fastnet Rock), a three-quarter sister to 2YO stakeswinner Chickens, from the family of Group 1 winners Copperama, Danendri, Faint Perfume and Danestorm.
His buyer, agent Suman Hedge, also signed for the $120,000 Castelvecchio filly out of Marquise da Rossa (by Testa Rossa) from the draft of Phoenix Broodmare Farm.
CASTELVECCHIO MAGIC MILLIONS NATIONAL WEANLINGS
New Zealand-based Landsdowne Park paid $145,000 for Sullivan Bloodstock’s Castelvecchio-Irish Goodbye colt, also out of a Fastnet Rock mare.
A pair of Castelvecchio fillies offered by Milburn Creek & Segenhoe Stud found new homes at $77,500 and $72,500 with Salvador Bloodstock & Management and Champion Thoroughbreds.
Arrowfield’s Bloodstock Manager Jon Freyer said, “These are very good results in an extremely selective market, and these five weanlings all have the quality and substance we’ve consistently seen in the Castelvecchio foals born at Arrowfield last Spring.”
Those Arrowfield-bred Castelvecchio foals include:
COLTS out of Miss Finland (Champion & dam of G1 Stay With Me), Bechuille & Flidais (sister & dam of G1 Sweet Idea & G2 Showtime), Wecansay Mak (dam of G3 Missile Mantra) & Panzerfaust (sister to G2 Kebede & G3 Panzer Division).
FILLIES out of Love Is Fickle (dam of 3-time G1 winner Hitotsu), G2 Just Dancing, Double Ranga (dam of G2 Scarlet Rain), G3 Ocean Challenger (dam of SW Super Maxi) & Aspen Summit (sister to G1 Irish Lights).
Arrowfield will offer 32 yearlings by Castelvecchio for sale in 2023, and has 41 mares in foal to him.
