Another successful charge for Cavalry

Debut victories always attract attention, but following up with a second-start win is arguably even more impressive.

Charge Forward ‘s 2YO daughter Cavalry Rose definitely impressed on a slow track at Rosehill today, holding out the smart trio of Jade Marauder, The Broken Shore & Tatra to post her second win from two starts. Her earnings, boosted by an Inglis bonus for her first win on 21 January, now total a handsome $216,500.

Bred by Grant Briscoe from Alberton Rose (by Danske), Cavalry Rose was an $85,000 purchase from the 2011 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale by Chris & Michael Ward’s Triple Crown Syndications. She is trained by Gerald Ryan who has enjoyed so much success with the progeny of Charge Forward’s barn-mate Snitzel.

As Ryan noted after the race, “She has beaten the colts twice with close enough to 57kg on her back and she is getting the job done. She is a nice filly.

“Mentally she has improvement…but fitness wise she is there. She has done a huge job this prep and we will sit back and reassess with her and we will let her tell us in the next 72 hours as to where we go with her. We might give her a three week break or we might keep going with her,” he said.

The sources of Cavalry Rose’s early running talent are not difficult to find. She is from a precocious New Zealand family by a stallion who displayed and now transmits an abundance of high-class juvenile speed. Four of Charge Forward’s six stakeswinners have won black type races at two: Headway, Shrapnel, Solar Charged and Fort Lincoln.

Nine yearlings by Charge Forward will be offered at the upcoming Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, including a colt from Road to Damascus (by Flying Spur) in the Bellerive Stud draft, here.
