Albrecht breaks a million for Redoute’s Choice

Sheikh Mohammed’s handsome colt Albrecht took Redoute’s Choice through the million-dollar mark on the Australian 2YO Sires’ list when he won on debut at Canterbury today.

Albrecht, from Lonhro’s sister O’Giselle (by Octagonal) claimed the 1250-metre Parramatta Leagues Club Handicap despite ducking out in the straight. Trainer Peter Snowden told AAP, “I like this bloke. He’s still a bit immature but has got a lot of potential and is destined for better races.”

Albrecht is the 7th Australian juvenile winner this season for Redoute’s Choice who also has 2YO winners in New Zealand (Pure Elegeance) and South Africa (Honorine). So far his 2009 crop is headed by stakeswinners Mama’s Choice and Wales, Group 1-placed filly No Looking Back and Group 2-placed colt Shelford, all capable of extending their records next season.

Arrowfield stallions hold three of the top six spots on the 2011/12 juvenile leaderboard with Redoute’s Choice in 5th position, just ahead of one son, Not A Single Doubt (9 winners & $932,795), and three places behind another son, Snitzel whose 12 winners and earnings of $2,390,010 are giving table leader Lonhro a late-season run for his money.
