91st Redoute’s Choice stakeswinner is Pure Elegance
Leading New Zealand owners and breeders Peter & Philip Vela of Pencarrow Stud continued their outstanding success with the progeny of Redoute’s Choice when their 3YO filly Pure Elegance won today’s Hawke’s Bay Breeders’ Gold Trail S. 1200m G3 at only her second start.

The daughter of Our Echezeaux (by Zabeel) showed abundant class in defeating a talented group of fillies headed by Rollout the Carpet (a Group 1-placed Group 2 winner last season) and Waterford (stakes-placed at two).
Pure Elegance is the fourth stakeswinner the Velas have bred by Redoute’s Choice, following her older sister G2 Dolmabache, G3 Burgundy (from Grand Echezeaux, a full sister to Our Echezeaux) and SW Papilio. All four horses are from Zabeel mares whose combination with Redoute’s Choice now has a 13% stakeswinners/runners strike rate.
It was a good day for Redoute’s Choice at home too, as a pair of 3YO colts showed their readiness for black type company with strong city wins. At Caulfield Lankan Rupee (ex Estelle Collection by Stravinsky) carried his sire’s racing colours to victory over 1000 metres, and confirmed trainer Mick Price’s plan to aim him for the VRC Ascot Vale S. G1 on 3 November.
Reflectance (ex Lady Capel by Last Tycoon) is also destined for better races and a trip south after scoring over 1200 metres at Doomben for Patinack Farm.
Redoute’s Choice is currently second on the Australian General Sires’ list with $1.4 million prizemoney, and Pure Elegance is his third stakeswinner in the first 8 weeks of the season, after Albrecht and Dystopia.
