Real Impact 2YO sells for $310,000

“Star colt, fantastic breeze, bombproof attitude” – that’s bloodstock agent Andrew Williams’ summary of the Real Impact colt he bought for $310,000 – the third-highest price – at Tuesday’s Inglis Ready2Race Sale.

The colt was the highlight of a very good day for vendor Blake Ryan who bought him from Arrowfield’s Inglis Classic draft.

He said, “The Real Impact, he brought a tear to my eye. I copped some flak for putting the neck out and paying $75,000 for a trade horse by a first season stallion, but everything has worked out perfectly with him.

“I loved him as a yearling and wasn’t going to go home without him. He’s got a great action, a great attitude and just a great style of colt.”

The colt’s dam Only Roses (by Redoute’s Choice) is a winning half-sister to Group 3 winners Blahnik and Dundeel’s son The Inevitable, one of the favourites for next month’s $7.5 million Golden Eagle.

Only Roses foaled a Maurice colt last month and returns to the six-time Group 1 winner.

Two other Real Impact 2YOs also achieved good prices on what Inglis described as “a solid day of trade.”  John Ramsey’s Niagara Falls colt was sold for $74,000 to Victorian buyer J. Kennedy, and Glenvale Park’s colt out of Madison Park was knocked down for $140,000 to leading Hong Kong trainer Caspar Fownes.

That gave Real Impact a sale average of $174,667 – the third-highest average of the Sale (for sires with 2 or more lots sold) and almost 10 times his service fee.

A two-time Group 1-winning son of Deep Impact, Real Impact has lived up to his name with 12 first-crop 2YO winners in Japan, earning him second spot on the current First Season Sires’ list.

And a few hours before Blake Ryan’s colt entered the ring in Sydney,  another Arrowfield-sold Real Impact colt scored a stylish trial win at Moe in Victoria.

Named Succotash, he was a $200,000 purchase from Arrowfield’s Magic Millions draft and is trained for Rosemont Stud & buyer Peter Moody by Phillip Stokes. His dam, US Grade 2 winner Cat By The Tale (by Tale of the Cat) has left Group performers Raphael’s Cat & Tale of Choice and city winner I Am Queen.

Real Impact took a break from the southern shuttle run this year, but Arrowfield maintains its commitment to the Deep Impact sire-line with Champion Sprinter-Miler Mikki Isle, whose first Australian yearlings sell in 2020 and, new to the roster, Group 1 winner Real Steel.
