Snitzel's fifth stakeswinner in 13 days

Snitzel’s fifth stakeswinner in the past 13 days could hardly be better named.

Arbeitsam, the third foal of the Red Ransom mare Workhard, is named for the German word meaning “hard-working.” And it’s easy to conclude that work is what he thrives on after his fourth and career-best win from five starts since 8 July.

That came in Thursday’s $150,000 Hawkesbury RC Rowley Mile 1600m LR where Arbeitsam speared out of the widest gate, took the lead, had all his rivals in trouble before the turn and proved far too tough in the run home. Rated beautifully in front by jockey Tim Clark, Arbeitsam made the most of carrying only one kilogram over the limit to win by almost a length from Kingsguard & Reiby The Red in 1:35.31 – the fastest time since the race earned Listed status seven years ago.

Watch Arbeitsam win the Hawkesbury RC Rowley Mile LR.

Arbeitsam was a $120,000 purchase by Dynamic Sundications from the 2015 Magic Millions draft of his breeder MacQuarie Stud. He is the second stakeswinner by Snitzel sent out already this season by the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott partnership, following Sweet Redemption’s Toy Show Quality G3 win last Saturday.

The stable and the horse share the credit for Arbeitsam’s successive wins at 1400 metres (twice), then 1800 metres and back to 1600 metres inside seven weeks – with next Friday’s Wyong Gold Cup LR over 2100 metres a possible next assignment. Arbeitsam has now won six and placed in five of his 13 starts and more than $470,000, a total that includes BOBS bonuses worth $87,500.

His dam Workhard has also left Listed winner Payroll to Not A Single Doubt, so it’s not surprising she is due to foal this Spring to another son of Redoute’s Choice, Scissor Kick. Other stakeswinners from this family include top-flight New Zealand sprinter Bawalaksana, Group-winning mare Damaschino and her daughter, the classy 2YO Shaaheq (by Redoute’s Choice).

Celebrations of Snitzel’s remarkable Premiership season in 2016/17 have been quickly over-taken by his new season’s stakeswinners Menari (ATC Rosebud LR), Jukebox (MRC Vain S. G3), Dracarys (ATC Up and Coming S. G3), Sweet Redemption & Arbeitsam. It’s a pace that puts the newly crowned Champion Sire on target to break a fresh set of records in 2017/18.
