Arrowfield pair tops 2YO Sires' list

A little more than four months into this season, it’s no surprise to see Not A Single Doubt on top of the Australian 2YO Sires’ prizemoney list.

He’s been the leading sire of juvenile winners for the last two seasons and has delivered the goods again this Spring with new stakeswinner Jackson and city winners Faraway Town & Punishing. All three are likely starters in the rich sale-related bonus races coming up over the next month.

Tony McEvoy is targeting next Saturday’s $500,000 ATC Inglis Nursery (R) LR with the gelded Jackson, while the Matthew Smith-trained filly Faraway Town & Liam Birchley’s colt Punishing head towards the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (R) LR on 9 January.

What is surprising – but perhaps shouldn’t be – is that Not A Single Doubt’s closest rival is his barnmate All American, himself a classy juvenile, successful in the Skyline S. G3 and second to Reaan in the Blue Diamond S. G1. The son of Red Ransom occupies the No 2 spot on the 2YO Sires’ table with $234,400 earned by three city winners from only four starters.

First up for him was Darby Racing’s filly Yankee Rose (trained by David Vandyke), who made a big impression with two whirlwind finishes at Rosehill, beating Faraway Town on 31 October, and Good Standing three weeks later. She’s now spelling with the Golden Slipper firmly on her agenda.

Thanks again to All American, Scott Darby and his fellow owners have a strong second hand to play in the meantime. Trainers David Hayes & Tom Dabernig will send their gritty Moonee Valley debut winner Rampage, bought from Arrowfield as a weanling, to Sydney for the Inglis Nursery.

All American produced his third 2YO winner in less than fortnight when Yankee Express won his first start at Doomben on Friday 4 December. A day later, All American’s first 2YO stakeswinner Bachman returned to the winner’s circle in style at Randwick. Bachman and Yankee Express are closely related, being from mares by sons of Danehill out of daughters of Polar Maid.

Not A Single Doubt has 20 fillies & 12 colts catalogued for the 2016 Magic Millions Sale, among them Lot 441, Arrowfield’s three-quarter sister to Group 2 winner Villa Verde.

All American is represented in that sale by four colts & two fillies, including Arrowfield’s close relative of Yankee Rose, the colt out of Catalina Winemixer.
