$280,000 paid for Johan's Toy in foal to Dundeel

“Thrilled with result and new owner!” was Jan Bergstrom’s response on Twitter after her mare Johan’s Toy, in foal to Dundeel, sold for $280,000 on the second day of the Inglis Australian Broodmare & Weanling Sale.

Offered by Goodwood Farm on behalf of Jan and her husband Bob, Johan’s Toy was purchased by well-respected judge Alan Bell, who undoubtedly recognises the triple value of an attractive stakes-winning mare, already the dam of multiple Group winner Toydini and in foal to six-time Group 1 winner Dundeel.

The bonus was the mare’s lovely weanling filly by Animal Kingdom, bought for $200,000 by pin-hooker Lyndhurst Farm on the Sale’s first day. That was the equal highest price paid for a filly in the weanling section of the Sale.

Johan’s Toy was one of four mares sold from the first book of 132 mares Dundeel served at Arrowfield last Spring. Second highest price of $150,000 was paid by Victorian buyer T. Ryan for Sorel Point, a winning daughter of Encosta de Lago from the family of Rock of Gibraltar. She was consigned by Newgate Farm.
