Strong demand for yearlings by young Arrowfield sires

An afternoon run of 37 lots sold without a single passing told the story of how trade was conducted on the second day of the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

Vendors and buyers found common ground on most horses offered, and the happy result was a strong middle market and an 88% clearance rate, with 307 lots sold for an average price of $133,575, slightly lower than yesterday.

Arrowfield-sired lots were in the thick of the action throughout the session. Top prices were achieved by Arrowfield’s Manhattan Rain-Charming Estelle colt, purchased by New Zealand trainer Lisa Latta for $210,000, and Widden’s Snitzel-Dance Girl Dance filly, bought for $220,000 by Danny Bougoure, trainer of Snitzel’s brilliant daughter Oakleigh Girl.

Yearlings from the first crop of Beneteau continued to find favour with buyers and the three colts offered today all sold, for $100,000, $100,000 and $65,000, prices that represent very pleasing returns on his $10,000 fee.

The five lots by Charge Forward  also found new homes, with three of them exceeding $120,000. His top price today was $160,000 paid by Cranbourne trainer Stephen Theodore for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds’ filly from stakeswinner Das Machen (by Flying Spur). Theodore is very familiar with the success of the Charge Forward/Flying Spur cross, as the buyer and trainer of the accomplished brothers Crack A Roadie & Road Trippin’.

The story was the same for Not A Single Doubt with four sold from four offered and a top price of $150,000 paid by leading New Zealand agent Paul Willetts for Bell River Thoroughbreds’ filly from Arthur’s Lass.

That was also Paul Messara’s final bid for the top-priced Starcraft yearling today, Ampulla Lodge’s outstanding half-brother to in-demand sire I Am Invincible.

Almost 50 Arrowfield-sired yearlings will go through the Magic Millions ring on Friday and they include a quartet of widely admired fillies in the Stud’s own draft:
Lot 399 – Snitzel-Flidais filly, full sister to multiple Group winner Snitzerland
Lot 465 – All American-Illusionary filly, full sister to Saturday’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic runner Invisible
Lot 524 – Redoute’s Choice-Line Honours filly, a grand-daughter of champion filly Alinghi
Lot 534 – Redoute’s Choice-Luna Bella filly, from a sister to Group 2 winner Hips Don’t Lie
