What's Dat? Another debut winner by Not A Single Doubt!

3YO Not A Single Doubt gelding What’s Dat looks likely to progress from his strong debut victory in the 1200-metre Why Be Initiation at Kranji tonight.

A compact, powerfully made chestnut with a prominent white blaze, What’s Dat was a $200,000 Hong Kong Jockey Club purchase from the draft of his breeder Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Sent to Gerald Ryan in Sydney, What’s Dat was originally named Zidante and ran second in two trials last October before going to Cliff Brown‘s stable in Singapore where he is owned by the Coy Stable.

What’s Dat settled nicely, just behind mid-field, for jockey John Powell who sent him wide before asking him to sprint on the home turn. The response was generous and the gelding strode away from the favourite Cobrador for a 2.8 length win in a time of 1.12.63.

?He was very well prepared and very well educated for a first starter,? said Powell. ?He?s a nice enough horse that should be able to go on and win a few more races.

?He?ll also get over a bit more ground which will open things up for him.?

What’s Dat is the first foal of the Montjeu mare Numero Douze, a city-winning daughter of Group 1-placed 2YO stakeswinner Tristachine, herself a half-sister to G3 winner Rhythm and SW Western Music. This is also the family of the fine Hong Kong performer Sapelli (by Flying Spur) and Australian Group 2 winner Hips Don’t Lie.

Numero Douze delivered a second colt by Not A Single Doubt in 2012.

Not A Single Doubt has done very well with mares by Sadler’s Wells and his sons, a combination that has produced 16 named foals for 4 stakes performers: South African Group 3 winner Castlethorpe, 2YO Listed stakeswinner Single Spice, Group-placed Spirited Eagle and stakes-placed Dominant.
