Snitzel 3YO scores Sydney stakes win

Things didn’t go to plan for Snitzel ‘s son Malavio in the $100,000 ATC Civic S. 1400m LR at Rosehill today, which made his two-and-a-quarter length victory all the more impressive.

Trainer Steve Englebrecht did not expect to see the 3YO gelding in last place on the turn, but Malavio’s powerful finish down the outside delivered the desired result.

Malavio is the 19th individual stakes performer, and 6th stakeswinner in what has been an outstanding season for Snitzel. The brilliant son of Redoute’s Choice heads the Australian 3rd Season Sires’ list and holds 9th position on the General Sires’ list with $5.3 million prizemoney. He has a career tally of nine stakeswinners and earlier this month posted his first Group 1 winner, the high-class 2YO colt Sizzling.

From the city-winning mare Win Here Win There (by Dehere), Malavio is raced by his breeder Ottavio Galletta and trained by Steve Englebrecht, who said after the race, “He has kept improving from day one, he is a really nice horse.”

Malavio has now won six of his 14 starts and more than $200,000 and is the first winner from his his dam’s three named foals. Win Here Win There is due to foal again to Snitzel in September.

Snitzel stands at a 2012 fee of $33,000 (inc. GST).
