First Hong Kong winner for Starcraft

3YO gelding Supreme Knight gave leading young sire Starcraft his first Hong Kong winner when he overcame a wide draw to win over 1200 metres at Sha Tin today.

It was Supreme Knight’s sixth start for trainer John Moore who prepares him for owners Mrs & Mrs James Tien Pei Chun.

Bred by Casakom Pty Ltd, Supreme Knight was purchased by George Moore Bloodstock for $350,000 from the Kitchwin Hills draft at the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. His dam, the Woodman mare Ducks, is a half-sister to G1 winner Northern Drake, from the family of good South African performers Seattle Ice and Profit Report. Ducks also has an unraced 2YO filly by Starcraft named Quackquack.

Starcraft heads the New Zealand 2nd Season Sires’ list, and is 9th on the Australian equivalent table, thanks to his two dual Group One-winning 3YOs, the colt Star Witness and the filly We Can Say It Now. Star Witness is set to open his autumn campaign in the MRC Manfred S. 1300m LR on Wednesday, while We Can Say It Now returns in New Zealand’s Waikato Sprint 1400m G1 on Saturday.

A big week for Starcraft may become even bigger if his talented daughters Foo Foo the Snoo and Hallowell Belle take their places in feature Australian 2YO races on Saturday. Foo Foo the Snoo, a debut winner at Ascot on 19 January, is among the entries for the $250,000 Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic, and Hallowell Belle, stakes-placed on debut in the spring, is a possible starter in the MRC Blue Diamond Prelude G3.
