Winner charges forward
Promising young sire Charge Forward already has one smart juvenile winner this season in early Golden Slipper favourite Solar Charged, whose owner breeder Peter Horwitz is also responsible for his second in From the Vault.
The Mark de Montfort trained gelding From the Vault drew the outside in a field of nine at Canterbury on Wednesday in the 1250 metre juvenile maiden and after settling back in the field produced a big finish.
The handsome bay loomed up three wide and set out with great determination after the leader Circle of Power, running down that horse and skipping straight on by to score by two lengths.
“He’s a really nice horse, I told Peter I thought he was pretty good, but then the tough alley was no help, although he was able to get cover and was too good in the end,” said Mark de Montfort.
“He reminds me of McClintock (stable star) in his attitude and the way he goes about his work, I only hope he ends up as good as McClintock!”
A homebred for Mr Horwitz, From the Vault bears a strong physical resemblance to his sire Charge Forward, who also carried the Horwitz grey, white and red colours to four wins including the Group One AJC The Galaxy.
From the Vault is the first foal and first winner for the Gilded Time (USA) mare Lightly Dusted, a winning half-sister to Mr Horwitz’ outstanding producer Dancing Jester.
A stakes-placed daughter of Rory’s Jester, Dancing Jester proved an absolute gem at stud leaving Group Two winner Tarleton, Group Three winners Play Around and Kid George as well as stakes-placed Royal Rock.
