We love Scallopini!
And who wouldn’t love to breed, race, train or ride Snitzel’s 8YO warrior son Scallopini?
He made carrying topweight of 60kg from gate 14 look easy when winning the $200,000 VRC Shaftesbury Avenue H. 1400m G3 – the best of his 6 career stakes wins and his third this season.
Scallopini’s earnings now exceed $1.1 million – a very healthy margin on the $200,000 Proven Thoroughbreds paid for him when he was offered by Yarraman Park Stud on behalf of breeder Steve Gillard at Magic Millions seven years ago.

Matt Hoysted told Racing & Sports, “I was a little bit worried he didn’t get things on his own terms, but he’s just so tough. He’s a happy horse and he’s fit so I knew once he gave that really good kick he’d be able to sustain it to the line.
“He’s rising nine and in career-best form. Every time we raise the bar he keeps meeting it, so just so proud of him.”
Jockey Damian Lane added, “He’s a beauty, they don’t come much better. He leaves the barriers well, he races on speed, sometimes he can be a little eager to get on with things, but gee, he’s racing so well.”
Given that all but one of Scallopini’s stakes victories have been at 1400 metres, the stable is taking early aim at the $3 million Stradbroke H. G1 over that distance on 10 June.
Matt explained, “Where his rating sits now, that’s the sort of race he needs to be going into. We were first emergency last year, he’ll definitely get a start this year and he’ll give a very good sight.”
Scallopini and Pago Pago S. G3 winner Shinzo compiled Snitzel’s 36th same-day stakes double and, as it happens, both are out of More Than Ready mares from the same 2009 crop.
Snitzel has 40 yearlings catalogued for Inglis Easter – 12 of them consigned by Arrowfield.
