Vintage victory by Snitzel’s 44th 2YO stakeswinner
Best Of Bordeaux lived up to his aspirational name with a 4.6 length debut victory in Saturday’s $160,000 ATC Canonbury S. 1100m G3, becoming Snitzel’s 44th 2YO stakeswinner.
There was a strong Arrowfield flavour about the trifecta, with runner-up Rakomelo out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Retsina, and third-placed Flashing Steel by 2003 Canonbury winner Not A Single Doubt.
BEST OF BORDEAUX is SW117 for Snitzel winning the Gr3 Canonbury Stakes on debut.

Jockey Sam Clipperton was full of praise for Best Of Bordeaux, “[He] is a real gentlemen to ride – first time at the races and he walked around like an old soldier.
‘”Once I let him flow for a furlong, around the bend he actually came back under me, breathed well and got into a nice rhythm. I must say he had a really good kick at the end.
“He will only keep improving and he’d have to continue to improve to be a force to be reckoned with in the Slipper, but there is no reason why he can’t.”
That assessment was reflected in early Slipper betting markets where the colt’s price was cut from $101 to $15.
Best Of Bordeaux was bred by Gerry Harvey (also breeder of Flashing Steel), who retained a share in the colt after Baramul Stud sold him for $425,000 to trainer Kacy Fogden & the Fung family of Aquis Farm at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.
He is the second foal of Harvey’s home-bred Melbourne winner Chateau Cheval, a High Chaparral half-sister to Group 1 winner & sire Casino Prince, as well as three other stakeswinners, and the dam of Prince Fawaz (J.J. Atkins P. G1).
Centimental and Rule Of Law added two more Rosehill wins to Snitzel’s record for the day and four hours after Best Of Bordeaux’s success, his 7YO son Scallopini made it a stakes double when he collected his second Sunshine Coast Cup LR.
That gives the four-time Champion Sire 13 stakeswinners so far this season, and the day’s earnings take him past his son Shamus Award into third spot on the domestic General Sires’ table.
Snitzel has 10 lots catalogued for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, two yearlings on offer at NZB Karaka Book 1 and 26 lots in the Inglis Easter catalogue – 16 of them in Arrowfield’s consignment.
