Unbeaten Snitzel filly is Magic Millions favourite
Star Arrowfield Magic Millions graduate Oakleigh Girl is unbeaten in two black type starts after a powerful victory in today’s $100,000 BRC Calaway Gal S. 1010m LR at Doomben.
The strapping daughter of Snitzel and Miss Kournikova is the current favourite for next month’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Arrowfield graduates by Snitzel have filled placings in two of the past three runnings of the race: Schiffer (3rd in 2011) and Sweet Idea (2nd in 2013).
Oakleigh Girl was a brilliant debut winner of the VRC Ottawa S. G3 at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day and then spelled briefly before returning to the stable of Dan Bougoure who prepares her for owner Louise Gillard. It was Bougoure’s bid of $400,000 that secured the filly at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, where she was offered on behalf of breeders Arrowfield & Planette Thoroughbred.
Oakleigh Girl, named in honour of her parents’ 2001 and 2006 successes in the MRC Oakleigh Plate G1, is one of Sntizel’s five stakeswinners this season, a list headed by Cox Plate G1 winner Shamus Award. The sensational son of Redoute’s Choice, with 117 runners, has just been shaded by Fastnet Rock (211 runners) as the leading Australian-based sire on the current General Sires’ list by progeny earnings.
Miss Kournikova has a colt by All American in the Arrowfield draft for the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Sale.
Oakleigh Girl headed a fine winning day at Doomben for champion sire Redoute’s Choice and his sons who also supplied Gold Edition Plate LR winner Into The Red (by Not A Single Doubt), and Arrowfield graduate Borehole (by Redoute’s Choice) who posted his sixth city win this season in the opening event.
Snitzel has 19 fillies and 19 colts catalogued for the Magic Millions Sale that begins on the Gold Coast on 8 January, including four fillies in the Arrowfield draft.
