Trial winner for Smart Missile

The second top-priced yearling by Smart Missile, the colt from multiple Group winner Ballet Society, won his first trial at Te Teko in New Zealand earlier this week.

The colt, named Cha Siu Bao, was bred by Bill Frost and purchased from Widden Stud’s Inglis Easter Sale draft for $425,000 by Anton Koolman for Hermitage Thoroughbreds.

It was a good effort by Cha Siu Bao to win the 600-metre catchweight trial after being slow away and settling at the rear before slipping through on the inside for a comfortable half-length win in 36.02.

Descended from a half-sister to champion sire Val de Loir, Ballet Society (by Stravinsky) is herself a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Cent Home. Their extended family continues to produce top-class horses around the world, including two-time US Horse of the Year Wise Dan.

Ballet Society’s first two foals to race have both won, King’s Dance (by Redoute’s Choice), successful in Melbourne, and Group 3-placed filly The Fairy’s Kiss.
